State Parks, Historic Sites, and Museums need your help.

Throughout the country, state parks, historic sites, museums, and similar institutions are struggling to continue operating. Because of general financial problems, many of these institutions are operating on a reduced schedule or in danger of closing. Some are being forced to sell off artifacts and property. Many will not weather these hard times without your help.

Places Earth urges everyone to support these vital and important public resources any way you can. Please donate your treasure, time, and talent. Write to your governor and other elected officials telling them to find a way to keep state parks open. It will be your loss.

South Coast Botanic Garden

All photographs taken by Kenneth A. Larson. All rights reserved. © 2013 - 2017.

The South Coast Botanical Garden as not a highly manicured space, but rather, left more natural, with some help. Some areas look as they might have one hundred years ago. Numerous paved and unpaved paths lead from the one-mile tram route. A small lake (closed for restoration at the time of this writing) is located a little southwest of the center. More manicured gardens are located closer to the entry and further from the entry, the grounds become more natural.

Among the 87 acres are several specialty gardens such as: Children’s Discovery Garden, Cactus Garden, Banyan Grove, Mediterranean Garden, Rose Garden, and several others.

Hours:
9:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily except Christmas Day.

Address:
26300 Crenshaw Boulevard
Palos Verdes Peninsula, California 90274
310-544-1948

The gardens offer memberships, there is an admission fee (check with the gardens for the current prices), and free parking with additional off site parking.
